I completly agree with the first reviewer - the coffee maker itself is great. Now I am ordering my third one. I don't like metal carafes because you cant see how much coffee you have left. But the carafe is too weak. Its almost like the business models with ink-jet printers - sell the printers cheap and kill them with the recurring cost of ink. It should be made of strong pyrex glass, but instead it seems to cracks too easily. Its simple, inexpensive, long lasting, and makes good coffee. I am also like one of the other reviewers who said he refuses to buy another coffee maker out of principle.
My first carafe cracked after about a year and I ordered this replacement. I was always very careful with the second one, but after about a year, it cracked also. I feel like I'm buying a new coffee maker each year. Here, its the recurring cost of the carafes.
It was available. Excellent. This is just what I wanted. It was sent immediately. It was reasonably priced.
I broke this carafe after 20+ years of use and Amazon had a great price and free shipping. That why amazon is a prefered source of supply for books, music, etc.
So back it went and we are back to using our 20 year old Braun system with our new replacement pot. Our previous coffee pot broke so I went out and purchased a completely new system, and it was dreadful. Difficult to clean, it just seemed cheap once we started using it. It seemed crazy to spend money on an over 20 year old coffee maker, I am so glad we did. Plus we added less to our carbon footprint, you can't say that everyday.
As it turned out, what I heard was not broken glass. Works as promised. Very good. It was the plastic spill guard that had come loose and was clanging around in the carafe (glass pot). This is the factory-manufactured replacement for my 10-cup Braun KF-400 coffee maker. When the package arrived, I was momentarily unhappy to hear what sounded like broken glass inside the package. No real damage. I would recommend that the folks at the fullfilment center snap off the spill guard and wrap it in paper before they place it in the package.
